Lightning Early Ninties Costume aka The Mullet

Continuing from On to the late 90's

- Drawing done with pencil and paper, quickly colored in Photoshop. I used by for the model sheet design this time, the drawing ended up being a bastard of his style mixed with mine, i have trouble drawing things like triceps from certain angles.

I've been tossing around the idea for a new comic now for some time, I always wanted to do a superhero themed comic. As a child I created a superhero, my idea is to take the superhero from my childhood and recreate it as an adult and make a web comic with the character as the protagonist.

- To clear things up, this is not the costume design or character (technically) I plan to use if I start a new comic, this is nostalgia.

This costume is so 90's it hurts.

Another trip down memory lane, Did you have a mullet in the early nineties? I did. Maybe I didn't have one as bad-ass as Billy Ray Cyrus or Lightning though. For about 2 months mullets were as cool as parachute pants, and everyone wore fluorescent colored garbage. Todd Mcfarlane, Jim Lee and Rob Liefeld were comic art gods, and I was a Liefeld fan. I can't believe I thought this costume design was cool as hell, I remember actually going to the store to buy fluorescent green marks to color this costume. I used to trace Rob Liefeld pic's to make mini comic's. Pouches were awesome.

History:

- Carrying on from the last page, Lightning had various adventures and a new Arch-Villain ruining his life and hurting everyone he loved. The villain called himself "Dark Lightning". By now he had various helpers, such as a sidekick and female version of his persona named Voltage, Dark Lightning put his scientist friend and side-kick in the hospital, he needed to deal with this alone and decided to separate himself from his persona's extended family in order to protect them. The change in his costume design came from an attempt to keep people from mixing up his Dark other with him, Dark Lightning would adopt a simular costume design soon afterwards. He was now a solo and more hard edged hero who would go to extremes to beat the bad guy, and to do anything he could to stop that mad man wearing his face, including killing.

- At this time I had created another hero named "Blade" who was mainly the guy I drew comic's about, Blade was basically an unfunny Deadpool rip-off and Lightning would show up from time to time looking for any clues to capturing Dark Lightning, Blade and Lightning would first clash when Blade mistook Lightning for his evil double.
